The Legacy of Heroes

Part 1: Knowing The World You Live In (Map of Erden)
A short history and geography of Erden
The World of Erden

The map below you is the known world of Erden. It will be the primary world map used in the Legacy of Heroes campaign.

The world of Erden is most commonly known by its 11 regions that are spread across the continent. These regions have held these names for as long back as anyone can remember. Even the oldest maps of Erden still fragment the continent into these 11 established regions. The names for these regions are not random or traced back to some famous person or kingdom. These regions are aptly named to describe what one may find in each of these places should they venture there.

Although Erden is home to some minor kingdoms, there are no vast and powerful kingdoms or empires that rule great swaths of the world. Instead, Erden is made up mostly of various systems depending on the region. Erden is home to many clans, tribes, city-states, alliances, warlords, republics, and as mentioned – a few minor kingdoms.

Let’s take a look at the regions of Erden and learn more about each of them. For players, this should help you establish a good back story to where you came from.

Part 2: The Story So Far

By this time you should have read the wiki entries for the different regions, and learned about the various places of interest in each region. Hopefully this will have given you some idea about where you want your character to be from.

The Story So Far

Your character was attending the annual Great Bazaar being held in the The Free Lands. You were fortunate enough to get a room at one of the inns in the town of Eastpoint, the harbor town built specifically for those shipping their wares in by boat. You had arrived a few days early before the Bazaar officially opened, yet being in Eastpoint you were able to get a first look at a lot of the trade goods as the traders and merchants moved through.

Why is your character at the Bazaar? Is he/she there to find a special item? Were you meeting someone there? Were you there to sell goods of your own? Were you traveling with others? Were you there just to trade for general supplies to bring home? Please consider why your character was there as this will be important to character background, as well as development later on.

On the eve of the opening of the Great Bazaar, the town of Eastpoint was the victim of a massive raid by the pirate known as Farold ‘The Dog’ Salvodor. You had heard the commotion outside, and as you leapt to your feet to see what was happening something strange overcame you. Your head was light and dizzy, your feet didn’t want to seem to work, and slowly your eyes began to close despite your struggle to keep them open. The last thing you remembered that night was your head hitting the ground and the sound of struggle off in the distance.

When you come to, you found yourself as cargo on one of Farold’s slave ships. Many of the people that you had seen in Eastpoint were also in the hold with you, all chained to massive beams. Many were beaten and bloodied. Some of the women had been raped and were lying naked and bruised. The smell of urine, feces, sweat, and vomit filled the hold. The odor was strong enough to make you pass out of consciousness several times.

You had only been on board for a day or two at most when the ship hit a bad storm that rocked the boat about violently. You could hear the panic in the crew above you as they tried their best to stay afloat. That is when you saw the flash of light followed by the loud CRACK. A bolt of lightning had hit the ship and split it right in half.

The ship was sinking, you and every other person on board struggled to free yourself and stay alive. In the commotion that ensued, you got a glimpse of land not far off to your West. You knew this was your only chance at survival, so amid the crashing waves, the strong winds, and the downpour of rain; you did your best to reach land.

You suddenly wake up upon the shore, coughing up water and feeling as though you had been baking in the sun for hours. The storm passed and you had made it to land at some point in the night. All around you were other bodies of those who washed up on shore long after they had drowned in the storm.

You spot a few other survivors who also look haggard and barely alive. Although your first instinct is to run and find some shelter and food, you know that if you are going to survive this and get to safety, you are going to need to band with the other survivors. Working together is now your only hope …..

The Adventure Begins
Progress Update 6/19

As our heroes (playing characters) woke up on the beach, they slowly came together to huddle around a fire and to dry their clothes. Together, they were made up of a female Half-Giant from the Northlands , a Human sorcerer of some kind, a female Elvish monk, and a Human hunter type, also from the Northlands.

Their introductions were quickly interrupted by an elderly man who gave them the timely advice to put the fire out before it attracts the nearby pirates. He offered to take the party back to his cabin outside the city walls. The party followed the old man back to his home. They were fed and given information on their whereabouts and current situation.

They were told of the Painted Ones, a native people to the Islands who were fierce and savage, and controlled the territory outside the city. They learned that their captor, The Dog, had a key to the outer gate and if they do not catch up with him before he and his pirates make it through the Painted One defenses and reach the outer gate, then there was little hope for them to get into the city.

He equipped our heroes (official names and character sheets coming soon) with some old weapons and a map of the island. By that evening, the party had departed the old mans cabin and headed towards the outer gate in hopes to find The Dog.

They learned that The Dog had set up a supply line and fall back camps in the event they had to retreat from the Painted Ones. Our heroes took advantage of these small camps and were able to overcome the pirates left at each of these camps. Through means of trickery and force, the party cut their way through to the front lines until they met The Dog battling it out with the Painted Ones right at the outer gate.

As the Painted Ones retreated, the pirates pursued leaving The Dog by himself at the gate. The party fell upon him and slaughtered him. They retrieved the key and were able to open the outer gate and get into the outskirts of the city.

Upon arriving in the city, they learned that there was a bounty on The Dogs head by woman named Meerna who ran the Salty Dog Inn. They went to the Salty Dog Inn and confronted Meerna about the bounty. She asked the party to conduct such business during the day when the bar was empty. She offered them free room for the night if they would comply. The party obliged.

When the party arrived to their rooms, a small Gnome named Whisper revealed himself. He was a companion of the human sorcerer, and had sneakily followed the party though the fighting and into the city.

In the morning the party confronted Meerna about the bounty for The Dog. They had learned that The Dog was one of Suma’s favorite pirates because of his slave trading abilities. The Dog was blamed for many people disappearing off the streets and taken as slaves. They also learned that Meerna was part of a resistance movement against Suma. She did not have the gold to pay them the advertised bounty, but instead offered them a signed parchment and told them the Blacksmith would make them whatever they want.

The party visited the Blacksmith and was outfitted with new chain shirts and had orders put in for some new weapons. The party learned of the hardship of the harbor being closed as merchants had run out of materials to make new things. They had learned that some merchants were paying a handsome price for materials that could be gathered on one of the adjacent islands if someone was willing to danger the Painted Ones to acquire them.

The part seeing this as an opportunity to earn some coin found a Kitsune who was renting out her dingy and offered to take them over to the other islands to hunt for animal skins.
